Scholars Support Model

The EOP Student Scholars Program aims to increase the retention and graduation rates of first generation and low income students by promoting academic excellence, financial empowerment, and community building. We create a community of scholars that utilize their personal strengths while leveraging program resources to achieve success at UC Davis and beyond.

Academic Excellence

EOP student scholars draw on their individual strengths and program services to achieve academic excellence and graduate within 6 years of enrollment.

Financial Empowerment

EOP student scholars take financial responsibility by developing the knowledge and skills to make informed and fiscally responsible decisions.

Community Building

EOP student scholars represent a community of scholars that utilize resources to develop a network that instills a sense of belonging among the first generation student community.

Advising and Registration

EOP student scholars have a team of both peer and career staff that provide academic advising support. Students are guided through the steps of registering by trained peer advisors and receive four quarters of priority registration beginning Winter Quarter of their first year they're accepted into the program.

Classes and Seminars

EOP student scholars have access to preparatory classes in math, writing and science. Students also complete a transitional course in study skills and time management to enhance their academic achievement and personal success.

Tutoring

EOP Student Scholars Program facilitates the use of academic and tutoring resources to enhance student learning. The program provides individual tutoring for subjects not offered by Academic Assistance and Tutoring Centers (AATC).

Learning Communities

Some first-year TRiO students live in the residence halls during the six-week summer bridge portion of the Special Transitional Enrichment Program (STEP) prior to their first quarter of enrollment. The summer bridge experience fosters learning communities around academic disciplines as well as personal and professional interests.

Community Activities

EOP Student Scholars Program peer advisors host quarterly social activities to facilitate relationship building within the program community. The program provides opportunities to attend cultural events, such as plays and concerts, and campus visits.

Workshops and Seminars

EOP Student Scholars Program offers students access to financial skill building workshops and seminars.
