Many students do not apply for admission to college because no one in their family has ever attended college or because college seems too expensive. The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) aims to improve the access, retention and graduation of students who have been historically disadvantaged, either socially or economically. EOP assists students by providing admission and academic support services. EOP serves students from all ethnic backgrounds.

For more than 40 years the Special Transitional Enrichment Program (STEP) has provided support services and a caring community to UC Davis students. The academic, social and personal support offered through STEP not only builds skills and confidence but offers students the support of a community throughout college and beyond. STEP graduates have gone on to great professional success–as teachers, lawyers, presidents of global corporations and more–and their Aggie Pride inspires them to give back to society in countless ways. Recent statistics reveal that more than 90 percent of STEP students persist into their second year and report more confidence in their ability to find available resources and to succeed. Unfortunately, rising costs and state cuts have meant that each year we must turn away hundreds of eligible students.
