Social and Personal Support

CAN Personal Counseling/Therapy

The Community Advising Network (CAN) assists all students, especially those from underserved populations, to achieve their goals and address factors that may be affecting their academic success. CAN Counselors provide students with consultation and personal counseling in addition to programs, workshops and other campus community outreach activities. CAN Counselors do not provide academic advising.

CAN Counselor can help you cope with:

  • Time Management
  • Academic Difficulties
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Addiction Issues
  • Family Expectations
  • Relationship Issues
  • Balancing Activism and Academics
  • Questioning Sexuality and Coming Out
  • Cultural Adjustment
  • Immigration Concerns
  • Stress Management

To schedule an appointment with our CAN Counselor, Jon De Paul Dunbar, LCSW, please send an email to jldunbar@ucdavis.edu.

Community Building Events

EOP hosts a number of community building events throughout the quarter. Check the EOP newsletter and calendar for more information.

Hair Closet

EOP recognizes many students in the African Diaspora Community often struggle finding hair care products in Davis. This speaks to the larger issue regarding the lack of diversity in the area. The Hair Closet is an initiative created by our students. It’s goal is to create access to hair care products not easily accessible in the Davis area.

Hygiene & Safer Sex

EOP provides free safer sex and menstruation products in our restrooms for students to take what they need anonymously. If you have any suggestions or feedback, please feel free to email us at eop@ucdavis.edu.

Other Campus Resources

  • Explore Identities and Cultures
A great first step toward creating a supportive circle of friends, mentors and allies within the larger UC Davis community is to visit the Community Resource and Retention Centers, the ethnic-specific retention centers, Student Success Centers in Advising and Retention Services and Services for International Students and Scholars. Whether you’re new to campus or a continuing student, the centers are welcoming spaces that both affirm and provide opportunities to explore intersecting identities. You can stop by to get academic support, find out about student organizations, be social or just chill.
  • Student Health and Counseling Services
UC Davis Student Health and Counseling Services or SHCS provides a wide variety of medical, mental health and wellness services to all registered UC Davis students regardless of insurance coverage.
